Livable North Portland is nonprofit organization formed under the umbrella of North Portland Community Works in early 2008 to bring together neighbors from all of North Portland to address noise issues relating to Portland International Raceway
(PIR). We believe noise is a livability issue and steps can and should be taken to reduce the noise in our neighborhoods.
We want to join forces and give a voice to all North Portland neighbors who wish to live in a pleasant, quiet and safe community. PIR Noise degrades North Portland’s livability. The intent of the city’s charter Title 18* (Noise Control) is to protect public safety and enjoyment of property. We insist the racetrack be managed in a responsible, low-impact manner with minimal interruption on neighbors’ lives.
While it is likely other neighborhood issues such as parks, schools, etc. will arise under the umbrella of livability, at this time, we feel the need to focus on noise from PIR to bring a long-term solution and reduce the noise from PIR and make our homes, businesses and neighborhoods peaceful and enjoyable. |
